Anion gap, albumin-corrected gap, delta ratio

Acid-base & electrolytes

The first fork in metabolic acidosis. Corrects for albumin (a low albumin hides a raised gap) and reads the delta ratio for a mixed picture.

What you enter

  • Sodium (mmol/L)
  • Chloride (mmol/L)
  • Bicarbonate (mmol/L)
  • Albumin (g/L or g/dL)
FORMULAAG = Na − (Cl + HCO₃); corrected AG = AG + 2.5 × (4.0 − albumin g/dL); delta ratio = (AG − 12) ÷ (24 − HCO₃)
