Glucose-corrected sodium

Acid-base & electrolytes

Hyperglycaemia pulls water into the plasma and dilutes sodium. Corrects the measured sodium so the true water balance is visible (DKA, HHS).

What you enter

  • Measured sodium (mmol/L)
  • Glucose (mmol/L or mg/dL)
FORMULACorrected Na = Na + 1.6 × (glucose mg/dL − 100) ÷ 100 (Hillier: 2.4 per 100 mg/dL)
