Light's criteria: pleural effusion

Exudate if any one criterion is met. Transudates are pressure problems (HF, cirrhosis, nephrotic); exudates are pleural problems (infection, malignancy, PE).

  • Serum protein (g/L or g/dL)
  • Pleural LDH (U/L)
  • Serum LDH (U/L)
  • Lab upper limit of normal for serum LDH (U/L)
